SECHI (ETHICS)

Social & Ethical Context of Health/Illness

SECHI addresses the way social factors can affect the course of disease and treatment, and introduces some of the ethical and legal questions which can arise as a medical professional. It addresses themes including stigma, health inequality, chronic illness, the role of doctors, confidentiality, resource allocation, medical law and ethics, and much, much more!

It is taught through two lecture series: one in Michaelmas and one in Lent.

You will also have 3 seminars in Michaelmas and 3 seminars in Lent.

For these seminars, you will be asked to complete formative essays (ie they do not count).

However, at the end of Lent term, you are required to submit 2 summative essays - one based on the Michaelmas lecture series and one based on the Lent lecture series. Further reading for these essays is required and details regarding the requirements of these essays and the submission process can be found on the SECHI Moodle page.
