HR (HUMAN REPRODUCTION)

Human Reproduction

This course begins in Lent term. You learn about how humans reproduce and how we are adapted to support our offspring. Some topics include gamete production, coition, fertilisation, embryo development, adaptations to pregnancy, lactation, gender identity, and sexuality.

There are also three practical sessions: one on the male reproductive tract, one on the female reproductive tract, and one on the placenta. These are mostly histology-based.

Pregnant

What resources should I use?

There are fewer lecture notes available on Moodle as this is a smaller subject, with some of the lecturers only publishing the slides so note taking can be more important in this subject.

There are useful Moodle walk throughs of all the practicals which are examined in Easter term. As well as this  the SSMVS drive covers lecture notes, exam papers and answers as well as some useful diagrams for the practical paper.

Baby Holding Parent

How is it examined?

There are 3 sections to HR with 3 exams, an MCQ paper, a practical paper and an essay paper.

The practical paper combines histology with some more general knowledge questions.

The essay paper requires you to write 2 essays with 45 minutes for each.

The essay paper is worth 50% of your tripos grade, with the MCQ and practical papers making up the other 50%.
