HNA (HUMAN ANATOMY)

Head & Neck Anatomy

HNA is simply a continuation of the FAB course from Year 1.

It is taught in Michaelmas via 6 lectures and 6 practical sessions.

Lectures cover both anatomy and also the embryology relating to that anatomy.

What resources should I use?

As with FAB, there is a very helpful HNA manual which can be found on the Moodle page and should include all the details you will need for the exam.

As well as this Anatomedia can be a useful resource for dissection photos, which makes up part of the exam so it is important to familiarise yourself with images as well as information.

The SSMVS drive has some good Anki sets which can be helpful for revision, as well as some lecture notes from the HNA lectures and notes on the HNA manual.

The HNA moodle page also has some good dissection images that they often use in the exam, so it is a good idea to familiarise yourself with these before the end of lent term.

How is it examined?

Unlike the other sections of the IB course, HNA only runs in Michaelmas and Lent term, and is examined at the end of Lent before you break up for the Easter holidays.

There are 2 exams, one 'steeple chase' style exam similar to FAB from IA, where you will be asked to identify and answer questions relating to a dissection image. As well as this there is a short essay exam where you are required to write 3 short answer questions of around 3 short paragraphs each.

These exams are usually sat on the same day with a short break in between them.
